When I first decided to become a life coach over a decade ago, it wasn't because I saw other successful life coaches and wanted to duplicate their business models, it's because I didn't see anyone who looked like me, talked like me, or thought like me in the industry.
At the time, I was a 31 year old woman in New York City who had found herself stuck in a soul-sucking job in digital advertising. I loved champagne, I had big goals for my writing career, and while other girls my age were out there house-hunting, I'd rather hunt for discounted vintage Chanel.
The first personal development book I ever read was The Secret in 2006. That led me to start thinking more positively, recognize my power, and I learned that the thing I had always done in my life to get what I wanted actually had a name – it was called manifestation.
I remember looking around in the coaching space thinking, "These people do not get me." And I knew if they didn't get me, there were hundreds of thousands of other women like me who didn't feel seen either.
At the time, it was a heavily dominated male industry. I did not connect with loud men on stages barking motivational quotes and blasting weird dance music. Nor did I connect with women in bad pants suits trying to act like those men. Nobody was using fashion analogies and they certainly weren't writing books called The Champagne Diet.
I knew I needed to become the kind of coach I wish I had.
And so I did. And the rest, as they say, is history.
To date, I have published 9 books that have been translated in 9 languages around the world including Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Mongolian, Vietnamese, and others. I have self-published, as well as landed a traditional double book deal with Penguin Random House. My podcast has nearly 10 million listeners worldwide, and has received high praise from Forbes and Oprah Daily. I have been featured in Glamour, Entrepreneur, Success, INC, Business Insider, Marie Claire, Huffington Post, and more. I have delivered personal branding presentations for the American Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo, Japan and been on both local and national television programs.
